CULTIVATING CREATIVITY: OUR EMPLOYEES’ CONNECTION BETWEEN GARDENING AND INSPIRATION
At Vimarc, we strive to incorporate our core values into everything we do. And one of those values is creativity. As an advertising agency, creativity is reflected in our work, from innovative marketing solutions to eye-catching ad campaigns. But when we take breaks from these artistic demands to seek inspiration in our personal lives, it helps us produce our best work for our clients.
Given that, we wanted to find out how some of us explore our imagination outside the office walls. And one trend was through gardening. While these featured employees aren’t in the creative department, they still find ways to inject originality into their jobs by being in nature’s playground.
ABBY BOYLE, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
Abby is known as the home chef of the Account Service team, so it was no surprise to learn that she started her first kitchen garden last spring. By the end of that summer, Abby had grown a plethora of squash, green beans, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and peppers.
Abby values the inspiration that this newfound love of gardening brings to her life. She says her garden has helped her mindset shift away from perfectionism toward growth and exploration. When at work, Abby uses her resourcefulness in several ways, including executing brand exercises with clients and challenging our internal teams to identify new tactics for her accounts.
CARRIE LINCKS, HR & ACCOUNTING CLERK
Carrie relishes adding color inside and outside her home with all her vibrant plants. Because of that, she has practically perfected the art of determining which florals work best together, taking into consideration how the plants expand and how tall they grow. Carrie found her love of gardening when she first got married and now delights in planting irises and daylilies with her son.
Carrie enjoys sharing her beautiful flowers with others and brings that positivity into the office. She wears many hats and always works in the background to make sure daily tasks flow seamlessly.
ERIKA GALIETTE, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
At a young age, Erika’s interest in flowers and plants was sparked by helping her mom in the garden. Now that she has her own home, she focuses on growing flowers and plans to build a raised garden bed for basil, cilantro, peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini.
Erika channels her ingenuity by beautifying her yard and learning to grow her own food. While at work, she makes an impact by weighing in on creative strategy for multiple clients and often gets inventive when negotiating deadlines with other departments.
REBECCA KING, CONTROLLER
Rebecca grew up on a multi-generational farm in Kentucky. From a young age, she picked weeds, plucked beans and, of course, ate as many blackberries as she could. Since she still loves the taste of fresh produce, Rebecca and her wife decided to start up their own garden when they moved back to Chicago last year.
As a Controller, Rebecca excels in numbers and organization, skills she can seamlessly apply to her gardening. She develops creative energy by playing in the dirt and channels this spirit into her problem-solving role at Vimarc. Her extensive knowledge and the ways she challenges us ensure the agency operates smoothly.
