Shelbyville Company Moves to Accommodate Growth

Shelbyville, Ky. – Things are really rolling for Bluegrass Roller Service since a recent name change and move.

The manufacturer of rubber covered rollers also changed its name from Meisner Roller Co. when it expanded the business into a new site that offers 20,000 feet of space, more than twice the space at the previous address.

The new location combines the company manufacturing operations and corporate offices. The name change has been in the planning stages for some time, but instituting it with the move made sense. Current owner’s Art & Scott Dixon bought the company in 1998 and both are involved in the day to day operation of the company.

“Our customers needed more volume from us, but they also needed diversified services,” explains Scott Dixon. “Without the increase in space, we were afraid our service to our customers would begin to suffer.”

The Dixons had talked about expanding at their previous site, about a mile away from the new one, but they were afraid they would be out of space again in a few years. In addition to rubber roll production, with the expansion, in-house repairs have become a bigger part of their business.

Bluegrass primarily services the industrial roll market, working with customers in different sectors, such as steel, wood and packaging. Bluegrass Roller Service’s capability varies from small-diameter rollers that would fit in the palm of your hand to 40-inch diameters. The rolls can be up to 240 inches in length with a 15,000-pound weight capacity.

The company currently has 14 people on staff, an increase of three since the move. A new web site will soon be unveiled to focus on the new business name and initiatives.
